Meant To Be Emily Giffin

This book had me hooked from the beginning to the end. This novel is about an All-American-Heartthrob Lawyer, Joe Kingsley, who falls head-over-heels for a model turned stylist, Cate Cooper. Cate holds back and doesn’t want her past to ruin his reputation, but it is not until she is in love with him that she realizes it might be too late.

It is loosely based on the Kennedy family, and there are some similarities that you may pick up on if you know about the history of the Kennedy family.

I am a sucker for a good romance novel, and this one kept me interested. The characters, however, did lack some depth. There was a fantastic description of them in the beginning, but as the book progressed, I didn’t feel as though I could relate to the growth of the characters in the story.

Also, I was not too fond of the way that Joe is perceived at times; although he is a highly educated man, he uses a lot of slang and has a different way of speaking that almost seems like he is trying to dull himself down in certain situations.

The POV in the book flip-flops back and forth from Joe to Cate, and although this is a trend that I love lately, sometimes it can be not very clear for timelines. Griffin did an excellent job with this narrative throughout this book.

Overall, the plot was good, and the ending was strong. I believed in Cate and Joe and really wanted to see them together in the end. I enjoyed seeing their story bloom and how practical situations were catalysts in their relationship.

I would give this book a 3.5/5.

I felt the exact same way about this book as you. It could have been better but for me it was just not as good as other in this genre.
