This was one of the first Colleen Hoover books that I read. Her writing style compelled me, and I was very impressed with how the two genres came together for a romance thriller.

This story is about a writer, Lowen Ashleigh, who can’t turn down the job of a lifetime when she is financially struggling. Her idol, Verity Crawford, had suffered a tragic accident and Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, hired Lowen to complete his wife’s book series. Lowen heads to the family’s home to try and find inspiration and an outline for the novel and instead is sucked into Verity’s personal tragedies when she discovers a memoir that was never meant to be seen, or was it?

I thought that even though this book was a thriller-romance, it was very well intertwined. The romance aspect kept me rooting for a happy ending, and the thriller genre came in when the book needed it most. The ending was especially surprising because just when you think you have it figured out, you are wrong.

I figured out the ending beforehand; I had my suspicions around halfway through the book. However, I still thought it was a great read.

I thought the memoir was an exciting way for the readers to understand Verity without her being very present in the novel. This also changed the POV multiple times but always gave you an understanding of how Lowen felt about what she was reading and what was happening around her.

The only thing that I would change about this book is the beginning. I thought that the way that Jeremy and Lowen met was a little too staged, almost forced.

I give this book a 4/5.
